Some people say the biggest NFL game of the 1996 season was the Super Bowl, where the Green Day Packers beat the New England Patriots 35-21.

Those people obviously aren't Friends fans.

Those who are know that the real biggest game took place in a small green space in Greenwich Village, between two bitter rivals: Ross and Monica Geller. The One with the Football aired during Friends' third season, in November 1996. The episode features a football game between the six friends, captained by Ross and Monica. The two are trying to prove who is the better player once and for all, after being banned from the sport by their father years earlier for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The episode features more than a handful of football scenes, shot in a separate indoor stage from the traditional Friends set. The game ends in a draw, with the two siblings forgoing Thanksgiving dinner in favor of their rivalry. But the journey to that draw has some plays worthy of analysis.

So that's exactly what we'll do.
